As part of Open Stage, OperaQ’s second youth workshop for 2016 involved working with a group of budding young performers to create an abridged version of Bizet'sCarmen. Led by the company’s team of professional singers and creative leaders, the participants learnt, explored, rehearsed and performed excerpts fromCarmen and other opera favourites in a program especially tailored for young people.
Each week long-workshop during the September school holidays was designed to stimulate the imagination, enhance performance skills, and to build confidence and a sense of community. The week culminated in a public presentation on September 23 for family and friends performed alongside OperaQ artists.
The increasing popularity of the Open Stage program led to an expansion in the offering this year. The 2017 program will be announced soon.
