ASO Concertmaster Natsuko Yoshimoto, Principal Bassoon Mark Gaydon and Principal Horn Adrian Uren will perform with the Shandong Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Australian-Chinese conductor, Dane Lam, in a concert at the Lishan Theatre, Jinan, on 8 April.
Ms Yoshimoto will be the soloist in Mendelssohn’s Violin Concerto, while Mr Gaydon will perform Mozart’s Bassoon Concerto.
They will join Mr Uren in sitting alongside their musician colleagues of the Shandong Symphony Orchestra for the rest of the program.
The three ASO players will take part in various workshops and talks that have been planned for the week’s visit.
The visit follows ASO Managing Director Vincent Ciccarello’s participation in the South Australia–Shandong Cooperation and Development Forum in May 2015, when 250 South Australian delegates joined more than 600 local Chinese business people and government officials at the event.
Mr Ciccarello said he was delighted that the ASO could play a role in strengthening the state’s relationship with Shandong Province.
'It is also the first time that the ASO has been able to have a musical presence in Shandong Province since the orchestra’s pioneering tour there in 1996. We will reconnect with our friends in Jinan and re-establish the relationship forged 20 years ago.
'We hope this will be the basis for greater and continuing person-to-person contact and the opportunity for reciprocal visits and a range of two-way musical activities.'
The musicians will be in China from 4–10 April.
