Art Music Awards to be announced on 26 August

The 2013 Art Music Awards will be hosted on Monday 26 August at the NIDA Parade Theatre in Sydney.

They are presented each year by the Australasian Performing Right Association and the Australian Music Centre to recognise achievement in the composition, performance, education and presentation of Australian music.

Several of Australia’s major orchestras are involved in the nominations, with the Australian Chamber Orchestra and Tura New Music receiving two nominations for The Reef 2012 tour: one for Excellence by an Organisation and another for Excellence in a Regional Area.

Other nominees for Orchestral Work of the Year include Blitz by Andrew Ford, performed by the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra, Fire Music by Brett Dean performed by Adelaide Symphony Orchestra, Full Moon Dances by Ross Edwards performed by Amy Dickson (saxophone) with the Sydney Symphony and Piano Concerto No.2 by Carl Vine, performed by Piers Lane (piano) with the Sydney Symphony.

Brett Dean’s Fire Music, dedicated to the victims of the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires in Victoria, was co-commissioned by The Australian Ballet, the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and the BBC Symphony Orchestra.

The awards will be hosted by James Morrison, with performances curated by Genevieve Lacey.
