Brett Clegg appointed Chair of Sydney Dance Company

Australia’s leading contemporary dance company today announced that the Chair of Sydney Dance Company, Karen Moses, will be stepping down after 3 years in the role. Brett Clegg, currently the Deputy Chairman, will take the role of Chair.

Karen joined the Sydney Dance Company Board in 2012 and was appointed as Chair in December 2016.

Karen has led the company through one of its most crucial chapters – from the relocation of the company’s home at Pier 4 while the NSW Government’s Walsh Bay Arts Precinct renewal is underway, to the Capital Campaign to achieve philanthropic support to help to fund the redevelopment of the studios and facilities.

Brett Clegg, is a founding partner of strategic communications and corporate advisory firm Cato & Clegg and a former Managing Director of Publishing at News Corp Australia.

Also announced today was the news that three additions will join the Sydney Dance Company Board; Managing Director, Wesfarmers Industrials,David Baxby, Trustee at QSuper Group and non-executive Director,Sandra McCullagh, and noted philanthropist and supporter of the arts,Paris Neilson.

Board Directors Beau Neilson and Peter Brownie have stepped down from the Sydney Dance Company Board and the company thanks them for their contribution during their tenure.

Outgoing Chair, Karen Moses said, “It has been an honour to be on the Board and serve as the Chair. We can all be proud to support such a nationally and internationally acclaimed contemporary dance company as we celebrate our 50th anniversary. I congratulate Brett Clegg on his appointment as Chair and thank all of the Directors both present and past. I am confident that the Company will continue to thrive and delight us.”

Incoming Chair of Sydney Dance Company, Brett Clegg commented, “To accept this responsibility at such an exciting moment of change and growth for the organisation is suitably humbling and exhilarating. Our supporters hold an intense passion for the sublime and profound art that our dancers create. All of us on the Board strive to reflect that in our commitment and dedication.”

Brett added that he looking forward to the opportunity to work closer with our Artistic Director Rafael Bonachela and Executive Director Anne Dunn.

Brett Clegg will commence as Sydney Dance Company Board Chair in August.
