Kyle J Morrison (Artistic Director of Yirra Yaakin) will direct an ensemble of WA actors in this sci-fi comedy,based on a true story, Skylab.

Black Swan State Theatre Company are thrilled to celebrate their inaugural co-production with Yirra Yaakin Theatre Company, one of the few Aboriginal led performing arts companies in the country, in this their 25-year anniversary this year.

The beginning of rehearsals coincide with NAIDOC Week, this year under the theme ‘Because of Her, We Can!’.Skylab is the first play written by Melodie Reynolds-Diarra, a proud Wongutha, Nadju woman from Western Australia. Melodie is a WAAPA graduate, first appearing inNo Sugar at Belvoir and most recently appeared in highly successfulBlack is the New White for Sydney Theatre Company.Skylab is based on a true story and set to be a hilarious sci-fi romp. They are honoured to present this work as a Rio Tinto WA Stories Project.

During their Skylab season, they will have a pop-up museum featuring some incredible items on loan from Esperance Museum including an actual piece of the space station on loan from WA Museum. There will also be a special discussion on Thursday 30 August at 6pm reflecting on this memorable event.

Skylab will also be touring to Karratha on Wed 5 Sept, Red Earth Arts Precinct and to Carnarvon on Sat 8 Sept, Carnarvon Civic Centre, Camel Lane Theatre.
