Now in its sixth year, this one-of-a-kind program, offered in
partnership with the Wilin Centre for Indigenous Arts and Cultural
Development at VCA, provides an opportunity for young First Peoples to
learn more about the creative industries.
Through the program participants explore potential career pathways as
well as develop their own creative skills and confidence through
practical workshops and presentations.
The program is made up of three blocks (all one week each) focusing
on an area of theatre-making. Participants will be guided by teaching
artists, meet with industry professionals, see a range of productions,
and engage in cultural experiences throughout the three weeks to build
their understanding and ideas:
Block 1 – Exploring Design
Learn about a designer’s process and experiment with costume, set, sound and lighting in practical workshops.
Block 2 – Developing Story
Find stories, write scripts, create dialogue and develop characters.
Block 3 – Directing and Performance
Develop performing and directing skills and build confidence.
When and where?
The 2020 program consists of three blocks throughout the year:
- Block 1 Monday 29 June to Friday 3 July
- Block 2 Monday 28 September to Friday 2 October
- Block 3 Monday 30 November to Friday 4 December
10am to 5pm daily
MTC Headquarters & Southbank Theatre
Accommodation (with shared facilities) can be provided for regional
participants and an accompanying parent/guardian for those under 18.
Travel can also be provided for regional participants. Lunch is provided
each week day of the program. Meals outside of the program hours will
be at the participants expense.
Who can apply?
Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander people aged between 16 – 22.
Interstate applicants are welcome to apply, however priority will be
given to Victorian residents. Places are limited and you must be able to
attend all three weeks.
