Sydney Dance Co to open German festival

Sydney Dance Company, supported by Arts NSW, has been invited to perform this year at one of Germany’s biggest cultural events, Movimentos Festival.

Sydney Dance Company will open the festival tomorrow, 10 April, with Rafael Bonachela’s multi-award winning work2 One Another and lead a series of workshops.

Shaun Parker & Company will also perform at the opening with its work,AM I.

This will be the second time Sydney Dance Company has featured at the festival, and its four performances and two workshops have already sold out.

Australia’s Ambassador to Germany, David Ritchie, will attend on Friday evening and the company has other European presenters lined up to visit over the weekend.

Bonachela, with two dancers and SDC’s rehearsal director Chris Aubrey, will lead creative and choreographic workshops on Saturday and Sunday.

2 One Another premiered in Sydney in 2012 and has since toured extensively around Australia, and internationally to North and South America, Russia and New Zealand.

‘We are so proud to be opening Movimentos, which is recognised as such a dance powerhouse in Europe and all around the world,’ said Sydney Dance Company artistic director Rafael Bonachela.

‘The dancers are so looking forward to returning to this amazing event and venue, to perform in front of sell-out crowds.’

‘Their invitation to join what is such a hugely prestigious festival among the international dance community is further proof of the international quality of, and interest in, their work.

Sydney Dance Company has a date back in Sydney with Sydney Symphony Orchestra the following weekend (17 and 18 April)—so it's a 6 am start for some of the crew and dancers the morning after their final performance for the long trip home.

SSO has invited SDC to join them on stage for 'music made visible' in seductive physical realisations of music by Astor PiazzollaLe Grand Tango,The Four Seasons of Buenos AiresandLibertango. Check it out here:

Movimentos Festival is held at the Autostadt in Wolfsburg from April 10 to May 17, 2015 and the theme of this year’s festival is ‘peace’. More about
