Motivated in part by the deaths of loved ones, Brahms’ Ein deutsches Requiem offers quiet and gentle consolation. Shying away from the bombastic, Brahms invites us to ponder death, mourning and the afterlife in reflective, contemplative terms.

Brahms himself selected the metaphor-rich texts, all of which are taken from Luther’s translation of the Bible. Cutting across faith, creed and language,Ein deutsches Requiem is a work of universal and all-embracing appeal.

Brahmsiana draws to a close with this one-off performance of Brahms’ choral masterpiece. Our journey ends on a note of soothing and poetic profundity.

Sung in German with surtitles.
